Gramin
Vikas Vigyan Samiti (GRAVIS) was founded in 1983 in the Thar Desert of
India. The organisation was formed in order to organise rural
development activities in the remote parts of Thar Desert. The
organisation has great faith in working on issues related to human
development, equality and rural empowerment with active participation of
communities of the region where it functions. In the beginning, it
started its work in a cluster of 20 villages of Jodhpur district in
Rajasthan. At present, GRAVIS works in more than 1700 villages of 10
districts of the Thar Desert of Rajasthan, India, and in Uttarakhand and
Uttar Pradesh States covering a population of about 1.6 million people.
GRAVIS
focuses its efforts on the restoration of dwindling natural resources
and on the promotion of marginalized groups. It believes in blending the
traditional wisdom with new techniques to create long-term, sustainable
and cost-effective means for improving the lives of rural inhabitants.
In order to achieve its overall goal of creating self-reliant village
communities, it strives to involve the local communities in its
programmes and interventions, train and build their capacities further
and develop community ownership.
The programmatic areas of work include: - Water security - Education - Agriculture and animal husbandry - Healthcare - Research and advocacy - Community mobilization

GRAVIS
is growing its programmes in different parts of Rajasthan and in other
parts of India. The organization is in need of a full-time fundraising
unit led by a Senior Fundraising Manger (SFM) dedicated to researching
funding possibilities, applying and submitting proposals.
Key roles
The
SFM is expected to work from GRAVIS head office or from a mutually
agreed location (can be discussed) and will be responsible for:
- Making annual resource mobilization plans or fund-raising strategy - Utilize existing knowledge/networks for funding possibilities and research and assessment of new funding opportunities - Exploring and supporting the formation of funding partnerships. - Exploring ways of raising individual donations and institutional resources - Working closely with GRAVIS programme, communication and finance teams - Applying for grants and writing project proposals - Representing the organization at fundraising events etc as per the need. - Reporting to GRAVIS leadership at a bi-monthly and annual basis
Required experience and skills
- A masters/post graduate degree in social sciences, development studies etc. - Good understanding of human/rural development, of civil society/NGO sector and of donor relationships - Desirably, well trained in resource mobilization or fundraising with good knowledge of funding possibilities - At least 3 to 5 years of experience in successful fundraising - Ability to understand local context and ground-level conditions, willingness to travel to remote areas when needed - Excellent writing and communication skills in English and Hindi - To be able to travel as per need and ability to represent GRAVIS
