kanthari - Scholarships for change makers / social entrepreneurs
About kanthari
kanthari in Trivandrum, Kerala, South of India, offers a 12-month, scholarship-based leadership program
for change-makers/social entrepreneurs who have overcome adversity and
who are keen to start their own organizations addressing social or
environmental issues.
In the past 12 courses, kanthari has trained 242 changemakers from 50 countries. This has resulted in 130+ organizations that are making a positive difference in the lives of thousands of people who are situated on the margins of society, every day.
kanthari
equips participants with all skills and tools that are required to
start and run their own impact-making organizations. The course is a
final stop before starting an own organization/venture/NGO or social
enterprise.
Organizations that are started by kanthari
graduates address amongst many others, topics in the fields of
Protection of the environment, Human rights, Alternative education,
Peacebuilding, and/or disability.
Some
participants have university degrees while others have little to no
formal education; some are blind or physically disabled, others have no
disabilities at all. What is important is a sense of ownership, motivation, creativity, talent, and passion to create a positive social impact.

Selection Criteria Applicants must be at least 22 years old (No upper age limit) and have intermediate English, and basic computer skills. It is essential to have an intrinsic drive to bring about a positive social change in the applicant’s own community.
