We
are an 80-member team, embarking on an exciting journey that aspires to
facilitate a just, equitable, humane and sustainable society through
grant-making. In the last 6 years, 370+ grants have been made in our
areas of intervention (further broken down into specific themes) –
Gender Justice, Urban Poor, Land and Forest Dependent, Governance,
Nutrition and Persons with Disability. The Azim Premji Foundation
(Philanthropy) represents a workplace that is well entrenched in
diversity, inclusion, and consists of individuals who are proficient at
being specialized generalists, can double and triple hat with ease with
BAU as well as specific projects with an aim to transform the
organization’s mission.
Overview
The
Data & Systems team is an enabler function in the Philanthropy that
has the mandate to create a virtuous circle of data-driven decision
making that will aid the organization’s grant-making and grant
management capabilities. In order to make this happen, we have two
streams of work:
Conceptualization and
implementation of MISes – we help build technical solutions for both
internal and external (grantee) IT systems and ensure these are
implemented seamlessly
Build dashboards and other forms of
data aggregation and analysis using relevant tools to provide insights
to our grantees, program leads, the senior management and the Board Responsibilities
1. Conceptualize and Implement large-scale IT Solutions
Understand requirements from the relevant stakeholders and ideate to a consultative technical solution
You will coordinate with various teams both internal and external to elicit and thoroughly understand the requirements
You will think through various solutions and make recommendations based on various considerations (scope, time and cost)
Involve in planning, procurement, development and implementation of technical solutions
You will coordinate with end users
and other stakeholders continually through the planning and development
phase to ensure their needs are being met within project timelines
You will work with procurement to build specifications documents and technically evaluate proposals
You will oversee the development
and implementation process with relevant stakeholders and ensure that
various exercises including user acceptance testing (UAT), training of
end users and piloting of the technical solution are conducted smoothly
You will be responsible to vet and recommend changes to the technical solution and validate effort estimates from vendors
2. Conceptualize and build dashboards, conduct data analysis and other ad hoc scripting tasks
a. Conceptualize and build operational and program dashboards for monitoring and tracking through key indicators
You will have to build, maintain
and improve descriptive analysis that help the grantees program
leads/senior management/Board to track programs and take strategic
decisions
You will be expected to extract, dig into, clean and transform the data to be prepared for analysis
You will ensure ETL processes are
well-thought of to ensure that the dashboards are built in a scalable
manner and factor other performance considerations to ensure a smooth
user experience
b.
Work on exploratory data analysis to inform key decisions in
grant-making and grantmanagement from publicly available or internal
datasets
c. Perform ad-hoc scripting for automation of tasks using VBA, Python, Google Script etc.
d. Mentor and provide feedback to junior team member/s to implement most optimal solutions
Qualifications and Experience
Degree from a reputed institution with a good academic record; a certification in data analytics is preferred
4-10 years of experience (mix of
corporate and development sector experience preferred) in IT systems
deployment (preferably in technical consulting/IT project management
roles) and/or in data analytics in any sector
Proficiency with Advanced Excel, VBA macros (Google Script), Python, data manipulation languages such as SQL, R, SAS, STATA
Proficiency in Tableau is a must while a working knowledge of PowerBI and Google Data Studio will be a bonus
Ability to see the big picture and
interpret information to build a broad understanding of philanthropy and
our areas of intervention
Ability to swiftly coordinate and
follow up with diverse teams, navigate through uncertainty and tight
timelines, and have an attitude of ‘get it done right the first time’
Ability to work with external
stakeholders such as partners and vendors directly, communicate
succinctly, maintain confidentiality, and manage timelines to get the
work done
A willingness to adopt best
practices, continually learn and improve without any structured guidance
to ensure your skill-set is up-to-date
