Announcement for position of Research Associate at National Foundation for India
National Foundation for India (NFI) is a non-profit organization with a core mandate to strengthen civil society and philanthropy in India for promoting social justice. NFI has supported more than 250 civil society organization over the last three decades.
Name of Position: Research Associate, Climate Programme
Reporting to: Research Lead
Location: New Delhi
Purpose: The Climate Programme at NFI aims to put people, especially marginalised communities, at the centre of the climate discourse in India. Our work will focus on driving climate research in sectors that have a direct impact on lives and livelihoods, build resilience and capacity at the state and community level, and drive policy through bottom-up consensus building. The first project under this programme seeks to assess the impact on livelihoods because of India’s transition away from coal.
Duties and responsibilities
Work with the research lead in data collection and survey design
Review large amounts of data and analyse the information using a variety of software tools and methodologies.
Data collection and management from various sources.
Conduct traditional and secondary research using various external information sources.
Develop quantitative methods for various analyses based on instructions.
To provide research content for organisation’s web pages, blogs, policy briefs etc.
Travel to various sites to collect information, interview stakeholders in government, civil society, and private sector.
Assist with project implementation, including help with preparing presentations and advocacy material.
Assist with the organisation of roundtables and other such events for dissemination.
Early career (upto 2 years) economist/researcher who is passionate about engaging with people and work towards creating on-ground impact.
Knowledge of econometric techniques, quantitative analysis, modelling, etc. as used in applied work.
Educational background and/or experience in sustainability and climate change is a big advantage, but not a necessity.
Can adapt and deliver under tight deadlines in a professional environment.
Willing to learn new research and project management skills.
Able to work in a team, but also drive independent research with minimum assistance, when required.
Ability to work in an interdisciplinary and multicultural environment.
Master’s degree in economics/development studies/sustainability/climate change
Applicants with bachelor’s degree (engineering/economics) and equivalent experience will also be considered.
Women candidates, especially from marginalised communities, will be given preference.
One year contract (renewable).
INR 35,000-50,000/month commensurate on qualification, experience, and last drawn salary of the candidate.
